HanHosting VDS Servers Git and Project Deployment Guide
HanHosting VDS Servers Git and Project Deployment Guide
Manage your software projects with a version control system and deploy them quickly to your VDS server.
1. Installing and Configuring Git on the Server
To transfer your projects to your VDS server via GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket, you first need to install the Git version control tool:
- Linux (Ubuntu/Debian): Connect via SSH and run
sudo apt updateandsudo apt install gitcommands. - Authentication: Generate an SSH Key (RSA/Ed25519) and add it to your GitHub/GitLab account to ensure passwordless and secure access to remote repositories.
2. Cloning and Running the Project (Clone & Pull)
You can take your project live by cloning your codebase into your web server's public directory (e.g., /var/www/html):
- Cloning: Download your project to the server using the
git clone [repo_address]command. - Fetching Updates: Pull the latest updates using the
git pullcommand to reflect changes made in your project onto the server.
3. Automated Deployment (Webhook) Integration
You can set up a continuous deployment (CI/CD) workflow using webhooks or simple Bash scripts to automatically update your server after every push action on GitHub.
