OpenClaw

Your AI assistant on your own server

OpenClaw is an open-source personal AI assistant you can reach from your messaging apps. It comes pre-installed on your server: start the setup wizard with a single command and choose the AI provider and the channels you want to use. The server stays on, so your assistant runs 24/7; the whole server is yours.

How your server is prepared

  • Once payment is confirmed the VDS is set up automatically; your root password arrives by e-mail
  • On first boot OpenClaw is updated to the latest version. When you connect over SSH, the first step is shown on screen (details: /root/openclaw-bilgileri.txt)
  • Start the setup wizard with openclaw onboard --install-daemon: choose your AI provider and API key, and channels like Telegram, WhatsApp and Discord. OpenClaw is installed as a background service and starts by itself after a reboot
  • The control panel (Control UI) is not exposed to the internet. Run openclaw-panel on the server; it prints the SSH tunnel command to run on your own computer and a one-time sign-in link

Security defaults

OpenClaw runs as a separate openclaw user instead of root, so the commands the assistant runs do not get administrator rights on the server. openclaw ... commands you type as root are passed to this user automatically.

The Gateway is reachable only from inside the server (127.0.0.1:18789) and is protected by a token. The firewall (ufw) allows only SSH (22) for incoming connections; to open another port, use ufw allow <port>/tcp.

Install skills and plugins only from sources you trust, and set a spending limit on your AI provider's API key. The openclaw security audit command checks your configuration.

What is included?

Ubuntu 24.04, Node.js 24 and OpenClaw come installed. Ready-made commands: openclaw-panel (panel sign-in link), openclaw-durum (version, service and firewall status), openclaw-guncelle (updates OpenClaw and Node.js). After the initial setup, updates, configuration and security are your responsibility.

AI model usage is not included. OpenClaw works with the API key of the provider you choose (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter), and you pay that provider directly for usage.

Backups are not included. Your OpenClaw data is in /home/openclaw/.openclaw; you can create a backup archive with openclaw backup create, and for regular backups you can add the Backup Storage add-on when ordering.

About the license

OpenClaw is open source and distributed under the MIT license, so it can be used freely, including commercially. HanHosting has no official tie to the OpenClaw project; the project's official npm package is installed on the server. Source code: github.com/openclaw/openclaw, documentation: docs.openclaw.ai.

About OpenClaw Server

Is AI usage included in the plan?
No. OpenClaw works with the API key of the provider you choose in the setup wizard, and you pay that provider directly for model usage. We recommend setting a spending limit in your provider account.
How do I open the control panel?
Run openclaw-panel on the server. Run the ssh -N -L 18789:127.0.0.1:18789 root@SERVER_IP command it prints on your own computer and keep it open, then open the one-time link in your browser. The panel is not exposed to the internet, so others cannot reach it.
How do I update OpenClaw?
Connect over SSH and run openclaw-guncelle. It uses OpenClaw's own update tool and restarts the service. We recommend creating a backup with openclaw backup create before updating.
Can I install other software?
Yes, you have root access. Only SSH is open in the firewall, so if you install a service that must be reachable from outside, open its port with ufw allow.
Can I upgrade my plan?
Yes. You can move to a higher OpenClaw plan from the client area; the difference is invoiced. The server restarts briefly during the upgrade; the OpenClaw service starts by itself and the extra disk space is added to the root partition automatically at boot.
Is there a refund?
Services are set up automatically once payment is confirmed, so there is no refund. We recommend starting with monthly billing; if you cancel from the panel before the renewal date, the next period is not charged.
